The Artist:

Hi, my name is Pamela Moniz and as the artist/owner of Two Left Feet Studios I am delighted for the opportunity to share my work with you.

I have always been creative, learning to crochet and sew starting at the age of five with the help of my maternal grandmother. As an adult I’ve spent many hours spinning wool and weaving on a variety of looms. My interest in art covers many expressions including basket weaving, costume design, knitting, and embroidery. Most recently I have studied gourd painting and blacksmithing at the John C. Campbell Folk School.

The Work:

The design of the characters inhabiting Two Left Feet Studios grew out of a need to express myself and focus positively and productively during a period of change and challenge. I began to work with mixed media with an emphasis on wool, clay, fabrics, and metals. These unique pieces can take up to 100 hours to create. Beginning with an inspired design, the characters are needle-sculpted over a wire armature. Clothing is designed, patterns created, and outfits sewn based on each character’s “personality”. Finally, they are placed in settings designed with the goal of telling a story, evoking an emotion, or expressing an attitude. Most of the pieces are reminiscent of childhood memories or endearing people I have met over the years. I have also created some custom character pieces which, although particularly challenging, can be very satisfying.

The Mission:

Hope, love, adventure, and life challenges are shared by all humans regardless of place of origin, gender or race. My hope is that the characters I create help to express how much more we are alike than different. They celebrate the many facets of what it means to be human with kindness, humor and childlike wonder.
